Simple Self-watering Planter
Want to grow a plant but don't have a garden?
Do you have a water bottle, scissors, dirt, and some twine? You can make a simple self-watering planter. Let's make it happen!
For all ages, even our kindergartner enjoyed this project. Here's what you do:
1) Cut a water bottle in half. Tape off sharp edges with duct tape.
2) Poke a hole in the top of your water bottle, and run a string of twine through it. If your water bottle has a spout, just run the twine through that instead. You want a string to be about the same diameter as the hole so dirt doesn't leak.
3) Set the top of the bottle upside down on the bottom half of the bottle so the twine reaches the bottom of the bottle. Trim the twine, if needed.
4) Fill the bottom of the water bottle with water.
5) Fill the top of the bottle with dirt.
6) Plant your seeds.
7) Watch them grow!
