Electronic Readers for Pre-Reading Skills
When I was a child, one of my favorite reading activities was books on tape. I could sit there with my book and a tape player, and the narrator would tell the story for each page, then *ding, it would be time for me to turn the page. Even as I became a confident reader, I enjoyed going back and listening to my favorite stories on tape. As a mother, I wanted to find something similar for my children, and thankfully I didn't have to look far.
That's a photo of our daughters enjoying their PAW Patrol reader.
Have you heard of electronic readers? There are so many out there!
A few years ago we were gifted an electronic reader set from a family member. It was so much fun. Our child could press a button and it would read for her. This came in especially handy one week when I was sick and lost my voice, but I still wanted to cuddle up with a book alongside my child.
Our 2 year old especially loves sitting down with these books and hearing the story for herself. She loves that she gets her very special tablet that goes along with a stack of books, and she can set herself up to read one right after the other, all by herself. Not only does it give Ma a little break, but it also fosters her sense of independence and encourages her early literacy skills. She is able to practice turning pages of the books. She is learning to follow along with the narrator. She has even started to recognize some of the more common words - a sight-reading win! I have enjoyed watching her devour books.
Our first electronic reader was the Baby Einstein Me Reader Jr. set.
