Parks of The Woodlands - Cottage Green Park
Cottage Green Park is a small neighborhood park in The Village of Alden Bridge, in The Woodlands Township, TX. Here is the official website for this park: https://www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/Facilities/Facility/Details/38
There are a few parallel parking spaces along the street and one pull-in wheelchair accessible parking spot. There is a small gazebo and a water fountain. There are no public restrooms. The substrate of the play spaces are wood mulch.
There are two playground spaces, with a large grassy space separating them. The grassy space is sunny and not shaded by large trees, so a parent can easily keep their eyes on both playgrounds. This space would also be fun for flying kites.
Let's start with the taller playground. This playground appeared to be designed for older children, but my 3 year old still found lots of fun things to do here. There were some easy stairs to climb that led to a tube. This tube was extra fun because it had a window on top, which let her look up at the sky as she climbed through. You may notice at the bottom of stairs there is a little circle handle which resembles a Quiddich ring. one time when we came to this park there were some kids pretending to fly around while trying to toss a little ball through the ring. It made me giggle, though I was concerned that they would trip over the step!
On this playground there is a tall climbing wall, and we had a great time with it. At first she was intimidated by its height but once she started climbing, she wasn't scared anymore. At the top of the climbing wall was our favorite part - a twisty slide!
Here is another fun thing to climb. This wall with holes for hands and feet was really fun for her to climb diagonally as well as vertically. Its zig-zag shape was a challenge. This piece of equipment is also a great size for children who are just learning to walk. There are places to grip and they can cruise along the wall. It's also great for peek-a-boo!
This big boulder was a challenging way to get up onto the play structure. There were enough foot holds and hand holds for bigger kids, but my 3 year old needed some help to scale this mountain.
Not pictured - there were two belt swings on this side of the playground.
Moving on to the other side of the park - close to the gazebo. This playground was designed with smaller children in mind. There are two bucket swings, a stand-alone slide, a climbing rope, and other challenging obstacles. This playground was so much fun for my 3 year old! She felt like everything was just her size. She crawled through, around, over, and down all of the fun twists and turns of this play space. The yellow circle that you see in this picture is really fun to twist and turn. Our girl called it a flower steering wheel.
The beige triangle that she climbed through in this picture was really fun for her. It is suspended by ropes on the sides so it wobbled back and forth just enough to make it a challenge to climb through. She sat on it for a while and wiggled, calling it a fun swing.
We had a great time at Cottage Green Park, and have been back to play several times since our first visit. We love the fun equipment here. But also, it's a great place to play after school in the early evenings. Because of its visible, central location in this neighborhood, when one child starts playing here, it is noticed. It feels like everyone in the neighborhood pops over to the park for a few minutes to play!
