Mother's Day 2020
Remembering my mother on this Mother's Day.
When I was a child, she saw that I looked at the world differently than how I was taught in school. She took the time to show me concepts that I struggled with by tactile means. She found ways to express the concepts in concrete terms that I could touch and feel. Over and over she showed me in different ways. And things started to make sense.
When I was in graduate school, she listened to me talk about my work for hours on end. She was the only person outside of my little research bubble who could keep up with what I was saying. She asked intelligent questions and always shared her thoughts. My mother passed away in 2015, two years before I completed my PhD.
Now that I have children of my own, I am glad that I get to apply the creativity that she helped me to develop. Like her, I get to guide my children through difficult concepts, and help them to gain confidence in their work, too.
Thank you for reading.
