Ball Bearings with Rocky
"Hey, Ma! Rocky helped me make a ball bearing."
Do you know who Rocky is? He was a stray who lived in a junkyard before he joined the PAW Patrol. PAW Patrol is a show on Nick Jr.
Here is a picture of our daughter playing with Rocky.
Rocky is an engineer who drives a recycling truck. He can fix pretty much anything with what he has in his truck. His tagline is "Don't lose it, reuse it!"
Here's another picture of a toy Rocky and his pup mobile.
So, what can do when given some random assortment of items? Can you build something fun or practical?
Our girl had two ring frisbees and a ball. First She played frisbee. Then She turned them into a hoop and a basketball. Next she turned them into a necklace for her sister and a headband for herself.
Then she started thinking about how they might be used in a machine. She started rolling the ball along the track of the frisbee. She put the other on top, then said, "Hey, Ma! Rocky helped me make a ball bearing!"
I was not expecting that one.
Here is a picture of her holding the basic ball bearing that she created. She's holding her stuffed toy Rocky and her two frisbees with a ball in between.
Here's a brief video that explains how ball bearings reduce friction.
We found this great video from a ball bearing company that explains different types. https://youtu.be/Jt0ou8Q5Fo8
Here are some games that you can play online with PAW Patrol. http://www.nickjr.com/paw-patrol/games/
Our friend made a great cross stitch pattern for PAW Patrol. Here is a link so you can find it on Etsy.
