Making Rabbit Toys
We love making toys for our pet rabbits.
I set out a bunch of appropriate materials and the children had a lot of fun putting them together.
Here are some toys that we came up with today!
Here are two pictures of a boy bunny with a box we wrapped up for them, filled with things to move around and enjoy!
The box is cardboard. It is wrapped in paper, which we glued to the box with a non-toxic glue stick. We wrapped the box in twine that is fun for the rabbits to chew through. We drew and wrote on the package with some water based inks.
Here is a ball that we made out of twine.
Our rabbits can bat this toy around and chew it to bits. Because the twine that we used made of raw natural fibers, it won't hurt their tummies if they eat them.
Here is a bow made out of twine.
Here is an old tissue box that we filled with hay. The rabbits love chewing on the box and on the hay. They shove this small box all around their pen. This toy gets messy, expect to pick up bits of hay from everywhere when you make this one.
Here is a very creative toy that our 3 year old came up with. She asked me to make her a snowflake that she could string the twine through. Then she glued the paper and folded it together.
We stitched together some burlap and stuffed it with paper. This one used our stitching skills. The pillow is small enough for our rabbits to move it around and play with it, or cuddle, too.
And another interaction with this pillow:
Now here is another toy that our 7 year old devised. It has a rolled piece of paper with burlap around it and twine holding it all together. Why make toys?
We have fun, and they have fun!
Our kids stay entertained and our rabbits get new harmless things to move around their pen.
Rabbits need stimulation or they'll get bored and destructive. If you're keeping a rabbit in your home, you want to keep them entertained.
We hope you enjoyed this silly crafty activity.
Here's a picture of a child holding the present she made.
