Research = We Search

The chalkboard below says Research = We search. - Todd Little.
The old way of doing science was to focus on what you observe and notice. A focus on individuality, on advancing your own career. But that method of doing science is falling apart. It isn't holding up, it doesn't move quickly enough to meet the demands of our rapid-paced, ever-changing world. I have known this for some time. This is why I have been deeply invested in open science since working on my PhD. This is why I gravitate to other scientists who share this drive, regardless of their discipline.

The most productive scientists today view themselves as part of a collaborative research team. They seek many perspectives from diverse groups and bring them together to solve complex problems. They build a sense of community around research, where everyone has a part to play and everyone receives credit for their contributions.

 "The best Research is We search." - Todd Little.

I took an intensive Stats Camp course this week by a well-loved statistician who has produced prolific publications. His name is Todd Little. He co-taught this course with another younger up-and-coming statistician, Zack Stickley. It has been a fascinating experience. The skills I am learning from their team will propel my research to the next level.

I have decided to apply some statistical tools that are often used in sociological and psychological research - to plants - while simultaneously branching into research revolving around human interaction with those plants and the hardware used to grow and harvest them.

It will also impact the skills that I will focus on building with my children. I have not completely digested this impact yet, but this was big enough that I wanted to mention it here, on my blog.

Here are some things you may see in the short term:
- I will share content and activities from other educators and parents on my Facebook page, here's a link: https://www.facebook.com/edusteamma?mibextid=ZbWKwL
- Other children will join my children for as many of our lessons as we can.
- I will be improving the accessibility of my videos. Videos will be shared as links to a platform that enables this accessibility.
- I may share about my botanical and space research interests more here.
- I will encourage you to share my work.

Your advice, tips, and encouragement in this process are always welcome.
