Sticks - a counting game
🚨 Math game!! 🚨
Do you know how to play "Sticks"? It's a counting game that started in Singapore and has taken the world by storm.
Here's a picture of 3 children playing this game.
What you need to play this game:
Hands with fingers.
Knowledge of numbers 1-5.
How to play:
Everyone starts with 1 finger on each hand.
Tap!
Now you have 1 on that hand, but your friend has 2.
Tap!
Your friend taps someone and they have 3.
Tap!
...
When you hit 5 exactly on a hand, that hand is out.
But you can return! If you have an even number on one hand, transfer them from one hand to the other. (Example: 4 on one hand can become 2 and 2)
When you tap with a number more than they have available on their hand, they keep adding fingers. (Example: they have 2 fingers up. You tap with 4. They add one, two, three fingers until they get five, drop, then end with 1)
The game keeps going. When someone hits 5 perfectly on both of their hands, then they are out.
* You can point instead of tap
* You can play across a room
* This game can be silent or loud
* You can move fast or slow
* Improves preschool math concepts
* Strategy and skill appeals to all ages
* Great way to pass the time
We took a 10 minute video of our kids playing this game on a dock this evening while Daddy was fishing. Our youngest is 3 and needed some help to keep up, but loved the game. Our oldest is 10 and started the obsession. Our 7 year old has a blast with it, too.
