"Why don't you make us printables? That would be so much easier on us!"
Let's talk about the learning process.
I want my children to know how to do a task from start to finish.
I want them to know how other people do things, and see them doing them, so they gain the confidence that they are capable of doing things themselves.
This is why I write out the cards and draw the pictures myself - with them seeing me -and encourage them to draw their own cards - so they know what goes into the process. This is why I write out our to-do lists with them beside me.
So often there is a disconnect between creative and intellectual. This doesn't need to be the case. We can develop both - at the same time.
We can become competent makers - and thinkers.
This process of showing my children how I do things has become my artistic outlet.
Perhaps it could meet a similar need for you.
I do appreciate when other people make printables on concepts. I reference them extensively, and post applicable links to printables that others have made in my blog and on this page when I find one that I want to share.
Do I print them out myself for my children? No.
It stands in the way of our learning.
They see something too polished and perfect. They can't picture themselves ever reaching that level.
Nope. Not what we need around here.
We are building creators.
What about you?
