Number Fun!

Let's have a little bit of number fun!
Let's get loud - and quiet - with our numbers today!
Loud Fun with Numbers
We enjoy counting aloud. Let's go outside and yell those numbers really loud!
(Yell random numbers, intentionally not in order)
Now let's gather all those loud numbers up and put them in order. Let's count up to 20 really loud together!

Ok. That was really fun. Now let's teach those numbers to be quiet. Gather those loud numbers up in our hands. Catch them! Catch them! Let's teach them how to be quiet. Shhhh. Now, store them in your brains. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6... (Point to your head with the numbers on your fingers, like this photo)
Ok. Let's bring those numbers - and our minds - indoors to do a little work.

*Our 11 year old thought this was not a fun activity. Our 4 year old really enjoyed it.

Quiet Number Activities
What do those numbers look and feel like?

Let's touch each of our sand paper numbers and write them with our chalk. These numbers are so fun to feel, aren't they? I love the colors you chose to write with.

Watch me as I draw a number line on this card for you. Do you like writing the numbers on the number line?

Let's say those numbers really quietly. (Whispers) Oh, those are some great numbers.

Let's play with our fingers and say some of those numbers with our fingers. Let's do a high 3! High 4! High 5! Hahaha. That's so fun. Here's a video we made. https://youtube.com/shorts/jvdc6at6tw4?feature=share

I'm going to put these sand paper numbers in the number line order. But I need your help, ok? What's this number? Ok, I think it goes here. What's that number? Oh, that's before the other one. All right, and this one? I think this one goes here! (I put 2 where 3 goes) She laughed and pointed out how I got it wrong. Oh! You're right.. thanks. That looks nice. Thanks for checking my work.
Now let's mix it all up again. We shuffle the cards when we're done to help get it ready for the next person.

Can you arrange the numbers in the number line order yourself? Oh good work ⭐

It's so fun to play with our numbers together.

Now let's bring our chalk outside and have some more fun drawing together.

Make your own sandpaper numbers
We had fun cutting out and glueing our sandpaper numbers together. We also made a set of lowercase sandpaper letters so we could practice the alphabet! I made lines in pencil with a ruler to mark where we should cut. Then the children cut out the card stock. I cut the sandpaper with scissors. I made a few mistakes along the way and had to remake many of the numerals, but I was very happy with the result. Our daughters glued the numbers to cardstock with school glue. I took a video explaining how I made sandpaper letters. Here is a link. https://youtu.be/8SfhhwdmXzs

Let's hear about your number activities!
