This game was gifted to us years ago and it has held up to nearly a decade of abuse.
Here we're sharing about a few games that we love to play as a family.
Catan Junior
Did you know that there's a Catan Junior game? It's designed for kids ages 6-9, but is great for older ages, too. it has pirates. We love it!Here's a photo of our girls playing.
We will earn a little money every time someone buys something after following the link.
Settlers of Mars
Our friend Dr. Richard Barker made this game with his students and colleagues! D&D meets space with this university-spun variant on the Settlers series. You can 3D print your own pieces and build your own habitat on Mars.
Here's a poster Dr. Barker and his colleagues made about it:
Here's the game board in action!
And a close-up with aliens!
Check it out on GitHub.
Giant Checkers
It's like checkers, only bigger, with a woven rug you can roll up instead of a board. Here is an Amazon affiliate link.
Though I bought a set for cousins at Cracker Barrel years ago, too.
Bananagrams 🍌
We have the old style tiles that look a lot like Scrabble tiles, but I noticed they have a new version that are more textured with lowercase and colors!

Spelligator 🐊
I think I shared about this one previously. I will share a link to that blog post when I find it. We love making words with these tiles that fit on an alligator.
Here's a photo from the Amazon listing that I link below.
Here's an Amazon affiliate link, if you want to purchase it on Amazon.
Chess ♟️
My daddy and I used to play chess together. When I went away to college we left our chess board in play. It became a very slow-moving game of chess where I moved a piece every time I came home.
Would you like a glass chess set like the one I grew up with? I found one like it for sale on Amazon. Here is an affiliate link.
I'll come back and add to this gaming blog post as we think about the games we love.
